Coronavirus Protection According to Ayurveda

There is palpable worldwide concern around the spread of the newest coronavirus (dubbed COVID-19). Variations of the deceptively beautiful coronavirus—crowned with a halo or corona—is also responsible for previous outbreaks including SARS, MERS and Swine Flu.

By now you have heard there is a possible case in Rice University. It has reached our homes now. Obviously there is lot of fear around this topic and lot of misinformation might get shared during such a crisis.

I am sure we all have more than enough data about this novel virus, including the fact that there is no vaccine or treatment in allopathic/modern medicine for this infection. We must join our hands with other healing modalities to help our community stay strong and together.

What can we do?
Being followers of Ayurveda we know that if our immune systems are strong, we can prevent and fight any infection. The basic principle of Ayurveda says that we are an integrated combination of body & mind; therefore, our efforts should be geared towards strengthening body & mind together.

Here are few steps to take now:
  • One meal a day should be soup or khichadi. The idea is to eat less food, so the energy saved can help fight the possible infection.

  • Warm sesame oil in each nostril 3 drops daily. For kids, apply sesame oil inside the nostril daily after shower. If you have nasya oil, you can use it instead

  • We have pippali tincture available at the center. Take a dropper full in ½ glass of water once a day. This helps to improve immunity of the respiratory system.

  • Take 1 tsp turmeric twice a day with honey.

  • Stay hydrated with caffeine-free herbal teas. (recipe below)

  • Immune Boost Tea: Boil 4 cups of water. Add 1 tsp grated ginger, 4 pepper corns, ½ inch cinnamon stick, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tbsp of coriander seeds. Boil until 3 cups remain.  Strain and sip warm during the day, adding lemon or honey to taste.

  • Self oil massage before shower, preferably abhyanga and steam. Do your own daily and come get one at the center as you are able.

  • Open and close your day with the thought, “My immune system is getting stronger.”

  • Stay away from unnecessary media exposure. Limit your news updates to twice daily. We want to stay informed but do not want to lose peace of mind.

  • Spend 10 minutes in meditation, watching your breath. Mentally repeat the syllable “so” on the inhalation and “hum” on the exhale. Research shows that meditation changes the chemistry of our bodies and strengthens the immune system. This particular meditation is very effective for bolstering respiratory health.

  • Avoid travel if you can.

This human system of ours is very complex and knows how to repair and heal itself given a chance. Recognize that getting anxious and panicked hinders this innate healing process. We must do our part.

Follow Ayurveda and assist the healing mechanism within. This phase will pass too.

May all be prosperous and happy
May all be free from illness
May all see what is spiritually uplifting
May no one suffer
Om peace, peace, peace

Namaste,
Sunita

Thank you for sharing this informative information. By sitting at home for a longer period, you are staying away from the virus. But, what would happen after the lock-down is lifted . Human beings are social beings; it is in our nature to do whatever is necessary to stay connected with others. Most of the senior doctor, they said that, we will have to live with this corona, If you really want to fight this virus so boost your immune system.
In Ayurveda, we have a treasure trove of natural elements. By using the knowledge of combining these natural elements we have manufactured safe, natural and herbal Ayurvedic remedies, available in the form of Alpha HPK (Alpha Health Protection Kit). It is purely Ayurvedic and very effective. It does not have any side effect and available on low price.
